Rashes Decoded: When to Shrug It Off and When to Get It Checked
You’re getting your kid dressed and — wait, what is THAT? Rashes have a way of appearing out of nowhere and sending parents straight to panic mode.
Take a breath. Most childhood rashes are harmless. But here’s how to know when it’s more.
Heat rash. Little red bumps where sweat gets trapped — neck folds, back, diaper area. Cool them off, and it fades.
Eczema. Rough, dry, itchy patches that flare up and calm down. Super common in kids. Keep skin moisturized and avoid irritants.
Drool rash. Red, irritated skin around the mouth and chin — thanks, teething. Keep it clean and dry, and it’ll improve.
Hives. Itchy welts that pop up suddenly, sometimes after food or medicine. If they’re spreading fast or your child has trouble breathing or swelling — that’s urgent.
Rash plus fever. Could be a viral illness like roseola, fifth disease, or hand-foot-mouth. Some need treatment, and all deserve a look.
Oozy, crusty, or spreading. Bacterial infections like impetigo spread fast and usually need antibiotics. Don’t let it linger.
A rash that looks like tiny bruises or purple-red spots that don’t disappear when you press on them. High fever with rash and a very sick-looking child. These need immediate care.
Rash got you stumped? Night Watch Winchester is here to figure it out — no appointment needed.
